If you have seen a planet next to a Snapchat friend and wondered what it means, you are not alone. The Snapchat planet order is part of Friend Solar Systems, a Snapchat+ feature that shows where you rank among another person’s Best Friends. The feature uses eight planets to represent eight positions, from Mercury for the closest position to Neptune for the eighth position.
This guide explains every planet in simple terms, shows the complete order in a table, and explains how to check your own position. It also clears up an important point: these planets represent Snapchat friendship positions, not astrology or your real-life relationship status.
Snapchat Planet Order From 1 to 8
The Snapchat planet order starts with Mercury and ends with Neptune. Each planet represents a different position in a friend’s Best Friends list.
| Position | Planet | What It Means |
| 1 | Mercury | You are their #1 Best Friend |
| 2 | Venus | You are their #2 Best Friend |
| 3 | Earth | You are their #3 Best Friend |
| 4 | Mars | You are their #4 Best Friend |
| 5 | Jupiter | You are their #5 Best Friend |
| 6 | Saturn | You are their #6 Best Friend |
| 7 | Uranus | You are their #7 Best Friend |
| 8 | Neptune | You are their #8 Best Friend |
Snapchat officially confirms that Friend Solar Systems use eight planets to represent different positions in a person’s Best Friends list.
What Does Mercury Mean on Snapchat?
Mercury is position #1 in the Snapchat planet order.
If you appear as Mercury in someone’s Friend Solar System, Snapchat is showing you as the closest position in that person’s Best Friends ranking. In simple terms, you are the friend at the top of their Best Friends list.
This does not mean Snapchat is officially declaring the person your best friend in real life. It reflects how the two accounts interact through Snaps and Chats.
What Does Venus Mean on Snapchat?
Venus represents position #2.
Seeing Venus means you are in the second position of that person’s Best Friends list. Your interaction level with that person is high enough to place you near the top of their Snapchat ranking.
The position can change because Snapchat regularly updates Best Friends based on how people use the app.
What Does Earth Mean on Snapchat?
Earth represents position #3.
If your Friendmoji shows Earth, you hold the third position in that person’s Friend Solar System. You are still within their top eight Best Friends, but two other positions are ahead of you.
The ranking is connected to Snapchat activity rather than a manual ranking that users create themselves.
What Does Mars Mean on Snapchat?
Mars represents position #4.
Mars means you are the fourth person in that friend’s Best Friends ranking. You may exchange many Snaps and Chats with that person, but three other Best Friends currently occupy higher positions.
Because Snapchat updates these rankings, your planet can change over time.
What Does Jupiter Mean on Snapchat?
Jupiter represents position #5.
Jupiter places you in the middle of the eight available Friend Solar System positions. It means you currently appear as the fifth position in that person’s Best Friends list.
It is important not to treat the planet as a permanent status. Changes in your Snapchat activity can affect your position.
What Does Saturn Mean on Snapchat?
Saturn represents position #6.
If you are Saturn, you are sixth on that person’s Best Friends list. You remain within the eight positions represented by the Friend Solar System.
Your position depends on Snapchat interaction patterns and can change as you communicate with different friends.
What Does Uranus Mean on Snapchat?
Uranus represents position #7.
Uranus is the seventh position in the Snapchat planet order. You are still included among that person’s eight Best Friends, but six positions appear ahead of you.
If your Snapchat activity changes, this position can also change.
What Does Neptune Mean on Snapchat?
Neptune represents position #8.
Neptune is the eighth and final planet in the Friend Solar System. It means you currently occupy the eighth position among that person’s Best Friends.
Being Neptune does not mean the friendship is unimportant. It simply represents the eighth position in the Snapchat Best Friends system.
How Does the Snapchat Friend Solar System Work?
The Friend Solar System is a Snapchat+ feature. When you are viewing a friend’s Friendship Profile, Snapchat can show a Best Friends badge with a gold ring. Tapping that badge can show your planet in their Solar System.
Snapchat says Best Friends are people you Snap and Chat with the most. There can be up to eight Best Friends, and the list is updated regularly.
The important point is that the planet tells you your position in that person’s Best Friends list. It does not show the person’s entire private Best Friends list.
How to Check Your Snapchat Planet
If you have access to the Friend Solar System feature, you can check your position through a friend’s Friendship Profile.
Follow these steps:
- Open Snapchat.
- Go to the profile of the friend you want to check.
- Open their Friendship Profile.
- Look for the Best Friends badge with the gold ring.
- Tap the badge.
- Snapchat will show the planet representing your position.
Snapchat says the Solar System feature is turned off by default for first-time Snapchat+ subscribers. You can turn it on through the Snapchat+ feature management area.
Is Snapchat Planet Order the Same as the Real Solar System?
No. The Snapchat planet order is based on Snapchat’s Friend Solar System feature.
The actual solar system has planets arranged by their distance from the Sun, while Snapchat uses eight planets as visual symbols for eight Best Friends positions. The Snapchat feature is therefore a ranking-style friendship indicator, not an astronomy system.
Does Mercury Always Mean You Are Their Best Friend?
Mercury represents the first position in the Friend Solar System, but it should not be treated as a permanent friendship label.
Snapchat says Best Friends are updated regularly based on your Snaps and Chats. As your communication habits change, the positions can change too.
So, if you are Mercury today, your position could be different later.
Can Your Snapchat Planet Change?
Yes. Your Snapchat planet can change.
Snapchat’s Best Friends system is updated regularly, so changes in who you Snap and Chat with can affect the ranking. For example, if you communicate much more with another person, your position in a friend’s Best Friends list may change over time.
That means you should view the planet as a snapshot of Snapchat interaction rather than a permanent label.
Does the Snapchat Planet Show a Private Best Friends List?
No. Snapchat does not simply display another person’s full Best Friends list to you.
Snapchat states that people may see if they are among someone’s Best Friends, but other people cannot see that person’s complete Best Friends list.
The Friend Solar System gives you your own position without exposing the complete list.
Snapchat Planet Order vs. Friend Emojis
The planet system and Friend Emojis are related to Snapchat friendship activity, but they are not the same feature.
Friend Emojis appear beside friends’ names and can change based on how you interact with people. Snapchat explains that Best Friends and their associated Friend Emojis are connected to your Snapping and Chat habits.
The Friend Solar System instead uses planets to show your position among those eight Best Friends.
| Feature | Friend Solar System | Friend Emojis |
| Main purpose | Shows your Best Friend position | Shows friendship-related status |
| Uses planets | Yes | No |
| Uses emojis | Friendmoji | Yes |
| Maximum Best Friend positions | 8 | Up to 8 Best Friends |
| Snapchat+ feature | Yes | Friend Emojis are part of Snapchat’s regular friendship features |
| Can change | Yes | Yes |
Why Is Your Snapchat Planet Not Showing?
There are several possible reasons you may not see a planet.
You Do Not Have Snapchat+
Friend Solar Systems are a Snapchat+ feature. If you do not have access to Snapchat+, the planet system may not be available to you.
Solar System Is Turned Off
Snapchat says the Solar System feature is turned off by default for first-time subscribers. Check your Snapchat+ feature settings and make sure it is enabled.
You Are Not in the Person’s Top Eight
The system represents the eight positions in the Best Friends list. If you are outside those positions, you may not receive one of the eight planet placements.
Your App Needs an Update
If a Snapchat+ feature is not behaving normally, check whether Snapchat has an available app update. Snapchat’s support guidance recommends keeping the app updated when troubleshooting feature issues.
Is the Snapchat Planet Based on How Much You Chat?
Snapchat says Best Friends are the people you Snap and Chat with the most. The system also updates regularly, so your interaction patterns can affect your position.
However, Snapchat does not publish a simple formula that tells users exactly how many Snaps or messages are required to move from one planet to another. Therefore, you should not assume that a specific number of messages automatically guarantees a particular planet.
Snapchat Planet Order: Quick Reference
Here is the complete Snapchat planet order at a glance:
1. Mercury → 2. Venus → 3. Earth → 4. Mars → 5. Jupiter → 6. Saturn → 7. Uranus → 8. Neptune
The closer the planet is to Mercury in this feature, the higher the corresponding Best Friends position. Neptune represents the eighth position.
Common Mistakes About Snapchat Planets
The Snapchat planet system is easy to misunderstand. Keep these points in mind:
- Mercury does not mean a relationship status. It represents position #1.
- Neptune does not mean you are ignored. It represents position #8.
- The planets are not astrology signs. They are part of Friend Solar Systems.
- Your planet can change. Best Friends are updated regularly.
- The system does not reveal the entire Best Friends list.
- You cannot manually choose your planet.
- Friend Solar Systems require Snapchat+ access.
Understanding these points makes the feature much easier to use without reading too much into a single planet.
