Confused by the planets appearing next to your Snapchat friends? The snapchat planet order is part of Snapchat+’s Friend Solar System feature, which represents positions in another person’s Best Friends list. Snapchat officially lists eight planets—Mercury through Neptune—and each planet represents a different position among those Best Friends.
The easiest way to understand it is simple: Mercury represents the closest position, while Neptune represents the eighth position. This guide explains every planet, how the system works, how to check your planet, and what the feature does and does not tell you.
Snapchat Planet Order at a Glance
Here is the complete snapchat planet order:
| Position | Planet | What It Represents |
| 1 | ☿ Mercury | 1st Best Friend |
| 2 | ♀ Venus | 2nd Best Friend |
| 3 | 🌍 Earth | 3rd Best Friend |
| 4 | ♂ Mars | 4th Best Friend |
| 5 | ♃ Jupiter | 5th Best Friend |
| 6 | ♄ Saturn | 6th Best Friend |
| 7 | ♅ Uranus | 7th Best Friend |
| 8 | ♆ Neptune | 8th Best Friend |
Snapchat’s official Friend Solar Systems guide displays the planets in this Mercury-to-Neptune sequence and explains that each planet corresponds to a different position in the Best Friends list.
1. Mercury — First Best Friend
Mercury is position #1 in the Snapchat planet order.
If Snapchat shows someone as Mercury in your Friend Solar System, that person occupies the first position in your Best Friends list according to Snapchat’s system. Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun in the real solar system, which makes it an easy visual reference for the first position.
The Snapchat feature uses the planet as a visual way to represent the relationship position rather than displaying a simple numbered list.
2. Venus — Second Best Friend
Venus represents position #2.
If a friend appears as Venus, they hold the second position in the relevant Best Friends list. The Friend Solar System turns that position into a planet-based Friendmoji.
This makes the snapchat planet order easy to remember: Mercury comes first, followed by Venus.
3. Earth — Third Best Friend
Earth represents position #3.
When your Friendmoji shows Earth, Snapchat is representing the third position in that person’s Best Friends list. Earth sits after Mercury and Venus in Snapchat’s planet sequence.
The feature uses familiar planets so users can understand the relative position without needing a numbered ranking displayed directly.
4. Mars — Fourth Best Friend
Mars represents position #4.
A Mars Friendmoji indicates the fourth position in the Friend Solar System. It follows Mercury, Venus, and Earth.
If you are learning the snapchat planet order, remember the first four as:
- Mercury — #1
- Venus — #2
- Earth — #3
- Mars — #4
5. Jupiter — Fifth Best Friend
Jupiter represents position #5.
Jupiter is the fifth planet shown in Snapchat’s Friend Solar System sequence. It represents the fifth position among the person’s Best Friends.
Snapchat says users can have up to eight Best Friends, which is why the Friend Solar System contains eight planet positions.
6. Saturn — Sixth Best Friend
Saturn represents position #6.
Saturn corresponds to the sixth position in the snapchat planet order. Its distinctive ring also makes the Friendmoji relatively easy to recognize.
At this point in the list, the sequence is:
- Mercury
- Venus
- Earth
- Mars
- Jupiter
- Saturn
7. Uranus — Seventh Best Friend
Uranus represents position #7.
Uranus is the seventh planet in Snapchat’s Friend Solar System. If you see the Uranus Friendmoji, it represents the seventh position in the relevant Best Friends list.
The official Snapchat guide includes Uranus among the eight planets used by Friend Solar Systems.
8. Neptune — Eighth Best Friend
Neptune represents position #8.
Neptune completes the snapchat planet order and represents the eighth position. Snapchat’s Best Friends feature supports up to eight Best Friends, so Neptune is the final planet in the Friend Solar System sequence.
The complete order ends with Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune.
How Does the Snapchat Solar System Work?
The Friend Solar System is a Snapchat+ feature. When you view a friend’s Friendship Profile, Snapchat can show a Best Friends badge with a gold ring; tapping the badge can show which planet you occupy in that person’s Solar System.
Each planet represents a different position in that person’s Best Friends list. In other words, the planet is a visual representation of your position rather than an independent friendship score.
Simple Example
Imagine Alex has eight Best Friends.
If you appear as:
- Mercury: you are #1
- Venus: you are #2
- Earth: you are #3
- Mars: you are #4
- Jupiter: you are #5
- Saturn: you are #6
- Uranus: you are #7
- Neptune: you are #8
That is the basic snapchat planet order in action.
Does Snapchat Planet Order Show Who Your Best Friends Are?
Yes, but there is an important distinction.
Snapchat says Best Friends are the people you Snap and Chat with the most, and you can have up to eight Best Friends. Snapchat also says Best Friends are updated regularly.
The Solar System then represents those positions through planets. The feature therefore gives you a visual indication of your position in another person’s Best Friends list when the Solar System feature is available and enabled.
Is Mercury the Closest Friend on Snapchat?
Yes. Mercury represents the first position in the Friend Solar System.
The snapchat planet order starts with Mercury and ends with Neptune. Therefore, Mercury corresponds to #1, while Neptune corresponds to #8.
Keep in mind that this is a Snapchat feature system, not an astronomical measurement of friendship.
Is Neptune the Lowest Best Friend Position?
Yes. Neptune represents the eighth position in the Friend Solar System.
Snapchat’s Best Friends feature supports up to eight people, and the Friend Solar System provides eight corresponding planets.
So the sequence is straightforward: Mercury #1 through Neptune #8.
How to Check Your Snapchat Planet
You need access to the relevant Friend Solar System feature through Snapchat+.
Follow these basic steps:
- Open Snapchat.
- Go to a friend’s Friendship Profile.
- Look for the Best Friends badge with a gold ring.
- Tap the badge.
- Snapchat can show your planet in that person’s Solar System.
- Match the planet with the snapchat planet order table above.
Snapchat states that Solar System is turned off by default for first-time subscribers. You can enable or disable the feature through Snapchat+’s feature management settings.
Do You Need Snapchat+ for the Solar System?
Yes, Friend Solar Systems are a Snapchat+ feature.
Snapchat identifies Solar System among the features included with Snapchat+. The company describes Snapchat+ as its subscription offering for premium, exclusive, experimental, and pre-release features.
Availability and subscription details can vary by country and device, so check the Snapchat+ section inside your Snapchat settings for the current information.
Why Does My Snapchat Planet Change?
Your planet can change because your position in another person’s Best Friends list can change.
Snapchat says Best Friends are updated regularly. Since the Friend Solar System represents positions in that list, a change in your position can result in a different planet being displayed.
For example, moving from the second position to the fourth position would correspond to a change from Venus to Mars in the snapchat planet order.
Does the Snapchat Planet Order Measure Friendship Strength?
Not exactly.
The planets represent positions in the Best Friends list based on Snapchat activity, not a scientific or personal measurement of how strong a friendship is. Snapchat describes Best Friends in terms of the people you Snap and Chat with the most.
Therefore, you should read a planet as a position in Snapchat’s Best Friends system, not as a definitive statement about someone’s feelings or the overall quality of a friendship.
Can Other People See My Entire Best Friends List?
No. Snapchat says your Best Friends list is private.
According to Snapchat Support, people may see if they are among your Best Friends, but other people cannot see your complete Best Friends list.
This distinction matters because the Friend Solar System gives a friend information about their own position without exposing your entire list.
Snapchat Planet Order vs. Real Solar System
The Snapchat sequence uses the familiar planets from Mercury through Neptune, but it serves a completely different purpose from astronomy.
| Snapchat Planet | Snapchat Position | Real Solar System Position |
| Mercury | 1 | 1 |
| Venus | 2 | 2 |
| Earth | 3 | 3 |
| Mars | 4 | 4 |
| Jupiter | 5 | 5 |
| Saturn | 6 | 6 |
| Uranus | 7 | 7 |
| Neptune | 8 | 8 |
The interesting part is that Snapchat’s sequence matches the planets’ actual order from the Sun. Snapchat repurposes that familiar sequence to represent Best Friends positions.
